They can't. I'm assuming the typical TV5 audience will fall under either casual viewers/children or those who've seen it already and will watch it dubbed for laughs galore. The former will be totally clueless and left wondering why the latter is facepalming.

they better have translation notes ready. i think that's how it was done with the north american release, although the notes were provided with the DVD.

but i don't think they'll be able to do this.

They could at least create proper localized jokes instead of just translating the original jap gags into tagalog.

CN's Adult Swim did that to Crayon Shin-Chan and it worked well.

then why not hire wee.. anime fans or fansubbers who know how to do things than letting some shitty network rape it?

Sure kona's dubber sounds cute but kagami and miyuki's dubbers doesn't fit them and i minoru sounds totally gay because it sounds like a female did him. Bandai's dub is much better compared with this crap.

Its not as easy as it sounds. First off, where are you going to find said anime fans?

Conventions? Sure if you get lucky and a convention's date is within the company allotted schedule. And if the company will even give you budget and resources for a casting booth.

Facebook/Friendster? Ha good luck.

Post an ad? Too time consuming especially if you need them ASAP.

So networks do the most efficient thing, which is to contact a voice talent agency or just use existing network talent if they have some. Networks have tight scheds especially for upcoming new shows, so they want their talents to be hired within days, usually 1-2 days. Above mentioned methods will take weeks.

I think Creativoices is the only voice talent agency here in the Philippines. They should improve their voice talents.

It would also be nice if they can get existing pinoy seiyuus from japan to teach voice actors here. Like that guy from pinoy big brother or my personal favorite Megumi Nakajima (Ranka Lee).

Megumi Nakajima is half pinay. That guy from PBB was half pinoy and was born here. There are other pinoy seiyuus AND animators in Japan but are required to use Japanese pen names.

> existing pinoy seiyuus from japan to teach voice actors here
>pinoy VA's
>teach local ones

I think you cannot teach talent. If the local VA's suck, they suck regardless even if you even got Mike Mignona or Brian Drummond to help them out.

Too bad no one has the voice for radio anymore when people care about the faces for TV.
¨ No. 4543

Talent, no. Verbal and acting skills on the other hand, yes.

There are such things as voice projection and acting workshops. They teach you the tricks of the trade, then it's up to you how you use it as "talent".

One thing I noticed from pinoy VA's these days is either they don't know how to project their voices, or they don't know how to internalize and act scenes. Most of them are just plain voice OVERS and not voice ACTORS.

One perfect example is that pinoy game Terra Wars. They got Mike Enriquez to voice a character there, which of course resulted in fail. Mike is a good voice over, but not a good voice actor.
¨ No. 4544
>>4543
Well you were referring to Megumi Nakajima, who in my opinion is talented in what she does much like the circles of versatile VAs I have paid attention to (with the exclusion of the likes of Aya Hirano I guess). You don't make talent like that. You somehow find them and cultivate and hone their skills.

That is why there is a disparity between a Mike Enriquez and say... Norio Wakamoto.

Seiyuus?

¨ No. 4546

Well if that's how you feel I can't blame you. But I'm telling you there are. Although I think most or all of them are 1st generation japinoys and not filipino migrants. Megumi Nakajima said in her interview that she "grew up in a house full of music". I'm assuming her mom is a pinay tarento.
¨ No. 4547
the question: how will they translate Tsukasa's balsamic vinegar lines? :/
¨ No. 4548
>>4545
Also think about this:

- there are around 80,000 candidates in seiyuu schools, agencies, etc

- a huge amount of filipino migrants are entertainers or "tarentos"

- among all the non-japanese groups in japan, filipinos are the fewest at around only 230,000 people

- BUT japanese-filipino marriages are the most common among japanese-nonjapanese marriages and there are a lot of japanese-filipino offspring in japan now

Its highly likely that children of entertainers would also pursue a similar career as their parent/s. And the most common place to start is an entertainment school.

Mind you, those schools don't just train seiyuu, but all around talents as well. Some of them just don't make it in an acting career so they end up as seiyuu, just like Aya Hirano.

If you want girls talking about their periods, watch Joshikousei (High School Girls). Considering this is conservative land, that's another show I'd watch just to see how our local crews dub it
